Fiverr just made a shocking move: it cut 30% of its workers (about 250 people) to chase an “AI-first” future. CEO Micha Kaufman says the company wants to flatten management, move faster, and rebuild its platform around artificial intelligence.

• Fiverr made $391 million in 2024, growing 8–12% a year, but new user growth has stalled.

• The platform still handles over $1.1 billion in transactions, but most of it comes from existing users.

• By using AI, Fiverr hopes to cut costs, speed up processes, and launch smarter tools for freelancers and clients.

The big question is what happens to freelancers? It could replace simple gigs, leaving less work for humans. It shows where the gig economy is heading and that is, less about human labor, more about automation.
