This email is about how I got 3.3M Impressions, 4.5K Followers, thousands of Website Visitors from a new social channel in 1 month!

But first, let’s take it from the top 👇

It’s late November and all I see is 🦋….

I suddenly see a bunch of people spamming butterflies 🦋 all over my X/Twitter Feed

They are referring to this New social media platform, a direct X/Twitter Competitor

called Bluesky??

I instantly think, NO ONE can compete with X/Twitter

it literally makes no sense someone to be able to compete with the culture, the features, the sophisticated Algorithm, but most importantly the people on X/Twitter

Its THE ONLY place you can see some of the most influential people engage in public discourse, unscripted, & uncensored!

but even just creators literally building in public, From idea—> Million dollar companies showing you all the steps, pain-points, failures, successes, strategies….you name it!

and then this thought led me to checking out Threads again…more on this after the following Q&As

What is Bluesky?

Bluesky is a decentralized social media platform.

X/Twitter but decentralized which allows users to own their data, move between platforms, and customize their feed algorithms. This means no single entity controls the entire network.

Why does it look exactly like X/Twitter?

It looks similar to X/Twitter because it was created by the same person, by Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s co-founder. The only difference was that it was going to be decentralized

Is it good? does it have potential?

it does have the potential, as does anything when it first starts out!

It amassed 26M registered users (as of this writing) in a short period of time

is it just hype though? Will it continue?

I guess we’ll find out

My personal opinion: No, I don’t like it, and i don’t think it has the potential to compete

I think it will never come anywhere close it terms of quality of content or adoption with X/Twitter

why do I think this?

I can write a 10 thousand word essay about this, maybe another time…

but in short:

• the culture is that its not twitter, thats literally all they have going for them

• the content is shit in my opinion. In many occasions i searched for “design” “web design” etc. and only saw 1 design or relevant result in 100 results and even that one was probably made in canva

• the algorithm is inexistent

• these starter packs hep you gain followers fast, but they are useless

  • I got 1K followers, but my best post got 4 likes, the same post that got 100+ on X/twitter

*these are my opinions through my experience with the platform.

Ok, Back to how I got 3.3M Impressions, 4.5K Followers, thousands of Website Visitors in 1 Month.

All this buzz around Bluesky made me think of Threads (Meta’s Twitter competitor).

“What is Threads up to? That’s the only real threat to X/Twitter. It’s the only one with endless distribution power.”

I realized they added search, a feature non-existent when it first launched, along with many others!

Not having search was the biggest reason I never gave it a chance…

After exploring it for a bit and trying to understand how it works, what the culture is, and what my approach should be, I came to the realization…

Its algorithm is good—a bit too good.

It’s fed through Instagram, so it’s much faster for it to “read you” and determine what you want to consume the most. That’s usually the overarching goal: get people addicted.

But I used this to my advantage to be very specific in how I post, what I post, and for whom.

I’m still learning about it, but i think i got a good knack about it so far. I’ll keep you posted!

It honestly reminded me of the days I ran Theme pages on instagram getting 45M views per month.

It’s more like Instagram from 5 years ago than Instagram today.

Its also a great way to reach new audiences

Just look at this screenshot from my analytics. Most views are from new people!
